🌱 3 Sustainable Ways to Clean Your Jewelry
(and Engagement Ring!)
While solid gold doesn’t tarnish or fade, it does need a little pick-me-up from time to time. Wearing your VRAI pieces everyday—as intended—can lend its way to dirt accumulation, which is never pretty. So today we’re sharing three natural ways to clean your jewelry and engagement ring so they're good as new.
1. Light Wash
Ingredients:
1 tsp of dishwashing soap
1 cup of warm water
Bowl or shallow dish
Steps:
Mix dish soap into a cup of warm water until fully dissolved. Dip jewelry in solution and use a soft cloth (or soft bristle toothbrush) to gently scrub clean. Rinse with clean water and let dry on a clean, soft cloth.
2. Medium Clean
Ingredients:
3 drops of lemon essential oil
½ cup witch hazel or white vinegar
Small bowl or shallow dish
Steps:
Mix EO with witch hazel or vinegar in a small bowl. Add jewelry and soak for approx. 5 minutes. If needed, wipe with a soft cloth to loosen dirt. Rinse with water and dry on a clean, soft cloth.
3. Heavy Duty - Great for Engagement Rings
Material:
1 Ultrasonic Machine (We use this one in our office)
1 cup sustainable Cleaning Solution (We recommend this one from Calyptus)
Steps:
This machine works by sending sound waves through a cleaning solution to remove serious dirt and grime. Just place your jewelry in the basket, and let it work its magic. For less than $40 and 2 minutes of cleaning, it's a simple and affordable option to keep your ring shining.
*If you're cleaning for the first time in a while, you'll want to check to ensure diamonds are secure after the cleaning. Sometimes dirt, lotions and other build-up are helping keep things in place over time.
For platinum rings, which may scratch more easily than gold, we recommend going to a professional polisher.
